Boiler Pressure Dropping

We had a fault find booked in Kidderminster. Customer said they had been constantly topping up the pressure due to pressure fluctuation. When the pressure in low the heating and hot-water normally stops working. On arrival the boiler pressure was fine. I could hear a gurgling sound. I checked the condense pipe was clear. It was routed internally to the sink which is better than going outside as it prevents freezing in the colder months. I was able to clear the pipe and enable the condense waste to flow away from the boiler heat exchanger. I then checked the expansion vessel. The expansion vessel is pre charged with nitrogen. When they split internally they will fill with water, and there is no where for the expansion of heated water to expand. When checking this it was full of water and would need replacing. When this happens the boiler pressure will raise higher than 3 bar and open the pressure release valve and blow the water outside via a little copper pipe. Replacing both expansion vessel and Pressure reilf valve will normally solve this and get you up and running again. This customer was on our exclusive HubCare boiler breakdown cover which is part of the Central Heating Hub. We provide priority response with cheaper more cost effective solutions.
